DESCRIPTION:The Arizona State Historic Preservation Office\, the Arizona Preservation Foundation\, and the City of Phoenix invite you to join them at the 14th Annual Arizona Historic Preservation Conference. This year’s conference\, “Preservation Next” is being held in Phoenix on June 8th-10th\, 2016. The goal of the Conference is to bring together preservationists from around the state to exchange ideas and success stories\, to share perspectives and solutions to preservation issues\, and to foster cooperation between the diverse Arizona preservation communities. \nSo what is Preservation Next?   It is the concept that all preservation efforts must contain a component of planning for the future.  Preservation is an ongoing process; one cannot simply stabilize a structure or site and then stop.  One must ask\, “What is next?”  “What will preserve and protect this important resource for future generations?”  “And who will preserve them?”  It is our responsibility to shape future preservation efforts\, to educate the next generation of preservationists\, and to show them the value\, importance and fragility of these non-renewable resources.   With each new preservationist come new ideas\, and new technology\, and the world of preservation must evolve to make the methodologies and techniques of the past mesh with these new ideas to create the preservation plans for the future. \nIn 2016\, as we celebrate several important milestones in the preservation community\, such as the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service\, the 50th Anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act\, the 30th Anniversary of the Arizona Site Steward Program\, and more\, it is time to reflect on our many past accomplishments and challenges so we can plan Preservation Next. \nAs we move forward\, it is imperative that we work together to guide and influence what the future holds next for preservation.

DESCRIPTION:Weekend Colloquia at Historic Sites\nExplore history in the places it was made\nTeachingAmericanHistory.org is proud to offer a series of weekend colloquia for social studies teachers. These weekend colloquia allow teachers of American history and government to explore in depth the people and ideas you are asked to teach\, at the historic sites that help to illuminate the subject. \nWhat better way to learn about American history is there than by reading the primary sources\, and discussing them with talented colleagues? What better place to learn about American history than in the places it was made? Participating teachers will read a set of primary source documents (150-200 pages)\, travel to a relevant historic site\, and engage in conversation with up to 20 colleagues over the course of a weekend. \nThese conversations are open-ended – teachers are not expected to reach a set conclusion about the material\, are not required to take an assessment\, and are not asked to complete a lesson plan. Participating teachers are only expected to engage in thoughtful conversation. \nEach colloquium begins on Friday evening and concludes on Sunday morning. TAH.org will provide teachers selected to participate with accommodations for Friday and Saturday nights\, meals\, and materials for the weekend’s colloquium. In addition\, participants will receive a stipend of $225 to defray the cost of travel to and from the program site. Teachers have an opportunity to earn up to an additional $100 in stipend money by hosting a Teacher Roundtable\, presenting a lesson built around their program’s topics and documents to colleagues\, and/or help TAH.org bring a Seminar or Forum to their district. Details about each of these options will be mailed along with acceptance letters.

DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Gordon Lloyd\, creator of TAH.org’s Online Exhibits and editor of the recent “Debates in the Federal Convention of 1787”\, in a six (6) episode series of webinars about the American Founding\, the institutions of government\, the Bill of Rights\, and citizenship. \nThis joint project between the Center for Civic Education’s We the People program and TeachingAmericanHistory.org is for teachers of American history\, government\, and civics\, and any students or citizens interested in deepening their knowledge and understanding of the ideas\, decisions\, people and documents that make up the founding of the American system of government. \nThe series will run six (6) consecutive episodes on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm EST/4:00 pm MST from September 22nd through October 27th. Each episode will discuss a specific theme regarding the Constitution.
